About Ashley Avellana Almada
Welcome to Avellana Dance Studio, where the vibrant rhythms of flamenco come alive in the heart of Santa Barbara. Founded by Ashley Avellana Almada, a passionate dancer and instructor with deep roots in the local dance community, our studio celebrates the rich traditions of flamenco with a blend of technique, history, and cultural appreciation.
Born and raised in Santa Barbara, Ashley began her dance journey at the age of 3 at the Goleta Valley School of Ballet, where she laid the foundation for her lifelong passion for dance. Introduced to flamenco at the age of 4 through Cruz Dance and Entertainment, she continued her studies under the mentorship of Rosemary Cruz and later at Linda Vega Dance Studio, where she trained for 10 years under renowned instructors such as Pamela Lourant, Cuna Nuñez, and Timo Nuñez.
In 2008, Ashley earned the esteemed title of Old Spanish Days Jr. Spirit of Fiesta, marking her dedication to and embodiment of Santa Barbara's rich cultural heritage. She continued to audition and train others for Spirit of Fiesta, nurturing her passion for passing on traditions to future generations.
At the age of 20, Ashley ventured to Seville, Spain, immersing herself in flamenco for six months under the guidance of masters such as Manuel Betanzos, Rafael Campallo, and Farruquito. This intensive training deepened her understanding of flamenco's artistry and soul.
Beyond flamenco, Ashley has explored various dance forms including Folklorico with Francisco Espinosa, cheer and dance team coaching at Goleta Valley Junior High, musical theater, hip hop, jazz, and more. She brings a wealth of diverse dance experience to her teaching at Westside Dance, where she has nurtured young dancers and helped organize community dance events.
With a background in Film Production from Santa Barbara City College and experience at Walt Disney Studios Marvel, Ashley brings a unique blend of creativity and discipline to her approach as a dance educator and studio founder.
Avellana Dance Studio is not just a place to learn dance; it's a sanctuary where students of all ages and backgrounds can discover the joy and artistry of flamenco in a supportive and inspiring environment. Join us as we celebrate the passion and tradition of flamenco dance here in Santa Barbara, and together, let's continue the legacy of Old Spanish Days Fiesta for generations to come.
